Opportunities for girls to play in soccer are limited in many parts of Africa because it's considered a "man's sport." Girls are expected to stay home and help around the house with chores such as cooking and cleaning. Some of the young female players at Khwisero Sports Academy are only allowed to play because the camp provides clean water and some food for them to bring home to their families.
The game of soccer teaches and builds self-esteem, character, and teamwork. It's important for these young girls to have the opportunity to pursue their passions and learn these principles in an impoverished area where women are often disadvantaged.
Some of the girls in Kenya lack equipment and often play barefoot on dirt fields with worn soccer balls. Games are played in old, oversized men's uniforms, which are often mismatched. Some don't have athletic shorts to wear, so it is not uncommon for them to play in skirts.
Make a Difference!
We are collecting donations which will provide gender appropriate clothing for practice sessions, uniforms for games, training equipment, food, water, transportation and other resources to assist with both individual player and team development. Every donation counts and will positively impact the lives of these promising young women.
